I'm a retired USAF flight medic and lifelong survivalist/prepper/homesteader. Back in the 1990s, I would do survival demonstrations, presentations and instruction at whatever base I was assigned to. At the time the Aircrew survival course was only offered to active aircrews so ground based USAF personnel had no formal survival training. Back in January I started taking the states Master Gardener which has vastly increased my knowledge of edible and inedible wild plants. That was the main focus of our classes. It actually had very little to do with lawns and flower gardens. I just recently finished my studies of the different types of oak trees although I still need to go out and collect a white oak specimen for my book. Next, I will need to collect a sample of arrowwood viburnum. I recently learned that if you collect the leaves of Mullen plants, it can be used as a last-ditch way to stun fish and make them easy to collect. I have several Mullen plants growing in my back yard. I have learned over the years that although I know a lot about wild edible plants and animals, I still prefer the taste of garden vegetables and farm raised livestock. That's why a have a lot of homesteading skills. In starting a garden in a wooded area, it's best to use container gardens using the olive-green sandbags. Stand them on end and secure them to saplings that you cut off at about 6 feet. Several bags can be secured to a single sapling. This not only keeps the bags standing upright but it also provides trellis support for the vegetables. This method takes far less time and effort over trying to completely clear the land of roots, rocks and tree stumps.

I have the knowledge and skills to go lone wolf into the wilderness but at 66 years old, I am losing the physical ability necessary for this challenge. I have tried to minimize this by putting my INCH rig on wheels to help move my supplies. My current plan is joining a fish and game club with the necessary manpower and resources.

Food for thought. What works for you works for you. No insults to what you’ve done. A few observations, I have: If you are like me, you carry sht stuff in your vehicle on top of your storage unit. I have no problem with the tow/recovery items. I do question, is that the best location for the fire extinguishers and medical kit. Remember stuff on top, which all has to be removed to get to what’s underneath. Is there a reason your 3Day bug out bag is not part of your vehicle kit? I did not see any water or food.

That green kinetic rope is awesome! I've had that same exact one for several years now and have used it to pop more vehicles than I can count off from memory and its been great as a winch line extension or redirect combined with a snatch block in a pinch. Not to crap on your hideaway box, but how do you think it would fare in a rollover crash? I carry more tools and stuff than I should, some loose just thrown in the back and then a couple military ammo cans for all the sockets and smaller tools which are packed full. Recently I have had a revelation that if I were to wreck and roll over with those tools in the back I probably wouldn't make it with those cans and loose tools flying around. Just a thought that kept me awake for a little while one evening... gonna have to fab up some kind of holder to secure those HEAVY cans for sure

I built a similar drawer and sleep system for my Subaru Outback. I do a lot of camping and backpacking so it’s usually full of 3-5 days of non perishable food and camp kit. I also have two 5gal Jerry cans either on the roof rack or stored in my garage, a trauma kit, jump starter, 12v air compressor and portable solar panel/ solar generator and 12v fridge. For the last two years I also made it a habit to never let my tank drop below 3/4 full. And all that excludes my bug-out bag and civil unrest kit that I keep ready to go. Sadly, I think it may come in handy in the next few years but if not, it’s all stuff I use pretty regularly and It’s all gear I’ve tested and used many times.

For your vehicle recovery kit, be sure to have one of those tow hitch receiver shackles. Pulling on your trailer ball is rather ineffective and a high probability of injury.

I’m a bit embarrassed now. All I have in my car is duct tape,rope, knife and a ski mask. Definitely need to look into some more stuff.

i love the med kit. if you come upon a wreck in a lonely place you will be able to provide some good care. youve got a good and well thought out amount of gear. i might recommend a 12 inche square piece of plywood to put your jack on if you end up in rough terrain on the side of the road. is the spare under that box? how hard is it to get to?

I have 5 of their knives and love all of them. My personal favorite and newest is their tracker it is a beast of a knife. Only knock is every time I put it back in the sheath it popped the striker out and I have lost it somewhere.

But how about the plastic , I sell bottled water in vending machines and have drank my share of bottled water , pill and spring , essentia , others , and sometimes you get the burning feeling in back of your throat From the plastic , so I don’t get the long term storage of bottle water , at some point something in that plastic is going into your water

I'm confused on one part. The bag is nice for grey-man/low key movement, but then you mention you'll have an AR with an ACOG. Your pack is full so you can't stow it away. Kind of defeats the low key idea to me. Nice video otherwise.

I live in Africa, I've also seen many have to evacuate & never come back home for various reasons; mainly war, earth quakes, etc... An INCH bag is a must, you never know what will happen... It won't cover everything, but it will be better than nothing...

I'm gm tech since I can't drive it it's really hard to tell. But this could be some of the problems tie rod ends ( I wouldn't think this since alignment but not every shop is reputable). Steering gear bolts lose I would put it air and tighten everything from suspension to steering including cradle. Ebcm may need relearned. Finally possible one of the front rotors maybe warpped from manufacturing just because it's new doesn't mean it's not bad. Wish I could drive it I could tell you what it is.

Taking iodine in this dose, is not without negative side effects. The recommended dose per day is about 0.2 mg/day. So with the 130 mg of potasdium iodide, you intake 100 mg of iodine - the recommended dose of more than a year - in one day. That makes the recommended dose for over 13 years in the 10 days, you take the tablets. Because of this you can get severe side effects, like heart racing, tremling, sweating,... because you bring your thyroid out of balance (hyperthyroidism). So in most countries it is not recommended for people older than 45 to take the blockers, because the side effects dominate the risk of thyroid cancer. I think adults don't use so much iodine, so it is not so much of a problem. With children and pregnant women - probably because of their higher metabolism rate - it is different, do they should take the pills. Maybe there is a compromise: buy normal iodide tablets with 0.2 mg of iodine and take 5 or 10 of them per day. This should reduce the storage of iodine in the thyroid significantly (at least to 1/5 respectively 1/10) without such negative dide effects on the thyroid and the rest of the body. And this pills are (at least on Europe) ridiculously cheap (100 tablets with 0.2 mg are about 4 bucks). And don't forget: it only helps, if radioactive iodine-131 is at your place. And mostly children got thyroid cancer after Chernobyl. And the estimations are that only 15 people died of thyroid cancer because of Chernobyl. It stays - fallout included - a seldom variation of cancer that is quite well curable. In the same timeframe (from 1986 until 2011) when the 15 people died of thyroid cancer in Europe (500 million inhabitants), about 250,000 people died in the US (380 million inhabitants) because of gunshots and another over 750.000 US-inhabitants died in traffic accidents. So be more careful on the streets is more effective to extend your lifetime than taking iodide in case of a nuclear attack/disaster.

The thing with the kidneys: perhaps because a lot of the radioactive atoms will be removed out of the body through the kidney, so they will be a peak of radioactivity near the kidneys. But how it should help to stick mass around there? It is radiating out of your body from there. Do you want to shield your surroundings from yourself? Or are the kidneys warmer, working faster and removing the radioactive atoms faster out of your body.

Why should your clothes and your shoes being radioactive, if the fallout hasn't beginning to drop, just because you were in the blast radius? The dust in the overpressure blast is not radioactive. But in this case you were very near ground zero (probanly within two miles) and you are probably vaporized, burnt or killed by the shock wave. Shelter is probably not your first problem but getting your severe injuries treated. Your skin is probably coal.
